The Fabulous FrankenSub! Rolex 5512 dive watch, daily driver.

I built this watch for myself over the past few years, from a partial watch and parts that I either had or tracked down. I built this watch to be wearable every day.  Unlike the Hodinkee listing below, this one is of course entirely and recently serviced, case rebuilt with all new seals, clean and ready to wear.

Here is a similar watch in a Hokinkee listing: https://shop.hodinkee.com/products/1968-rolex-submariner-reference-5512?variant=2940145362541

  • Caseback is dated for 3rd Quarter of 1970, lots of service marks, "5513" which is entirely correct for a 5512.

  • Case serial is also for 1970 (25xxxx)

  • Original "feet first" dial, with original Tritium lume. Some of the markers are repaired (done a long time ago) but absolutely real. Some of the lume had cracked or come off, and someone long ago repaired the missing lume. I've gone over the dial and firmed up all of the lume with an invisible clear binder that ensures everything is solid. No more worries about anything coming off of the dial.

  • Genuine handset, which had no lume when I got them, so I could relume them to match the dial. Glow and color matches.

  • Beautiful Rolex 1570 movement, non-hacking (which is correct for 1970), really super nice, fully serviced by me. Strong & accurate. New mainspring, sweep hand pinion. No moisture damage at all.

  • Genuine Rolex tropic crystal

  • Genuine Rolex service insert with lume pip I lumed to match dial and hand

  • Crown is a Triploc sub one, this watch should have TwinLock I think, but it works perfectly well.

  • The model number of the case between the upper lugs has been scratched off and someone put their initials there, by hand. I smoothed that out and then decided to put my own initials there since I built the watch for myself. It's not visible when the bracelet is on.

  • Bezel ring is either newer aftermarket or NOS Rolex, I'm not sure which. The case didn't have a rotating ring when I got it.

  • Crystal retaining ring is either Rolex replacement or very high quality aftermarket. The original ring had some pitting / corrosion so I replaced it. I can include it if you'd like.

  • Bracelet is aftermarket, but good quality. I do have a "rivet" bracelet, genuine Rolex but sort of built from a few different bracelets. If you were interested in that we can talk about it.

  • Clasp on the current AM bracelet is genuine Rolex, as is one endlink

  • It comes with my usual warranty, and in the Rolex service shipping box it came to me in.
